Dong Zong won’t give up on UEC recognition

EDUCATIONIST group Dong Zong will not give up on its mission to get the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) recognised despite the fluid political situation, reported Sin Chew Daily.

“We will continue to hold on to our stance. We will not relax or give up,” said its president Tan Tai Kim during the launch of an online learning platform at its headquarters in Kajang on Wednesday.

“The political situation is unstable right now. This is the time for us to do our jobs well, like revamping our teaching methods, foster better relationship among independent Chinese schools and gather strength from everyone to promote (education),” he added.

Dong Zong, also known as the United Chinese Schools Committees’ Association, looks after 63 independent Chinese Schools in Malaysia and sets the syllabus for UEC examinations.

Wang was convicted of putting sodium nitrate in the children’s porridge in March last year after a tiff with another teacher.

According to Jiaozuo City Intermediate People’s Court, this was not Wang’s first offence as she had used the same chemical to poison her husband in 2017, also after an argument.

Both Wang and the kindergarten’s person-in-charge are now facing a civil suit filed by the parents.
