Anawin will do whatever it takes to keep Phoenix alive

PETALING JAYA: Former Thailand international Anawin Jujeen is ready to run himself to the ground to steer Petaling Jaya City away from the drop zone.

Anawin, who joined PJ City in April after the Malaysian football leagues were suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic, has played in all matches since the league resumed on Aug 22 but the Phoenix are still precariously perched in 10th position of the 12-team league with eight points from nine games.

Felda United are 11th with seven while relegated Police are last with minus one point.

The versatile 33-year-old playmaker is willing to drop down to defend to ensure PJ City get two wins from the last two ties and avoid relegation.

They are up against high-riding UiTM today and a full-blooded no holds barred battle is on the cards.

“We have been working hard and training according to the coach K. Devan’s plan. We are ready to take on UiTM, whose strength is their fitness as they have many youngsters and can click well as a team,” said Anawin.

“We need six points from the two remaining games to remain in the Super League. I am comfortable with any position the coach puts me and I’m ready to give my all.”

Anawin played for Thai club Buriram United with whom he won the Thai Premier League three times (2013, 2014 and 2015), FA Cup twice (2013 and 2015) and the Thai League Cup in 2013 and 2015.

PJ City is Anawin’s first overseas team and he is looking forward to a good outing.

“I can still do better. This is my first year but several elements affected my time here, such as the virus situation.

“Hopefully I get the chance to play in the Malaysia Cup as well.”
