I’m free of Covid-19 and ready to resume official duties, says Wee

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong will be resuming his official duties now that he has been certified free of Covid-19.

The Transport Minister said a doctor on duty at the Cheras district health office cut off the red wristband on his right hand yesterday afternoon.

“After two RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) tests in the past two weeks, the results have come back negative.

“I am thankful,” he said on his Facebook yesterday.

Dr Wee said with the test results out, his days of working from home would end.

“Starting next week, I will be back to work as usual.

“I wish to thank all the doctors and healthcare workers who have been working tirelessly to battle the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

Since returning from Sabah on Sept 25, Dr Wee has been working from home.

The MCA president was there with other party leaders to campaign in the state polls.

Separately, MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon said the party had decided to postpone its divisional meetings in light of the recent spike in Covid-19 cases, indicating the possibility of a resurgence in infection.

“To contain the spread, Dr Wee has directed all MCA, Youth and Wanita divisions to postpone their divisional annual general meetings until further notice.

“The president hopes that party leaders at all levels will closely monitor the latest developments related to the pandemic and regularly remind relatives, friends and the people to adhere to the standard operating procedures.

“This is in addition to undertaking the role as ‘frontliners’ in fighting the disease together.

“Such endeavours will assist our country towards achieving the goal of zero infection,” he said yesterday.

On Thursday, Umno announced that its divisional meetings would be postponed as a safety precaution against Covid-19.

This includes Wanita, Youth and Puteri meetings at the divisional level.
