Sisters saved from squalor reunite with their dogs

-

KUANTAN: The three sisters who lived a squalid life amid garbage and animal waste have been reunited with several of their pet dogs thanks to the efforts of kind individuals.

Kuantan MCA Wanita chief Tee Choon Ser said the girls had been missing their dogs and were very happy to see the puppies, which were at an animal shelter here.

“Thanks to animal rescuer Henley Tan and the Kuantan Animal Rescue & Education group, the dogs are in safe hands and receiving proper care.

“The adults and the puppies are being kept separately and today we arranged for the girls to see their beloved puppies,” said Tee yesterday.

The sisters, aged nine, 10 and 12, had been living with their uncle, a welder, in a garbage-strewn upper level of a shophouse until recently.

The appalling living environment was made worse by the waste left behind by 13 dogs, a civet, turtle, bird and fish that the girls reared.

They were sent to Rapha Children’s Home after an intervention from concerned individuals and the Welfare Department.

Tee said the girls were preoccupied with thoughts of their dogs and their mood was finally uplifted when they were reunited with the puppies.

“The puppies were also happy to see them. The girls have names for all their dogs,” she said.

Tee said once the dogs were healthy, they would be given up for adoption.

“Tan took the time to explain to the girls that their dogs are being well taken care of. He also told them that the dogs will have a better life when they are adopted into a good home.

“The eldest sister seems to be able to understand and accept that,” said Tee.

She advised the girls to focus on their studies now that they knew their dogs were cared for.
