New scholarships to study in France

-

SIX students will study in France thanks to two new scholarships – the Malaysia-France University Centre (MFUC) Master Scholarship programme and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB)/Campus France scholarship programme.

The MFUC Master Scholarship programme is funded by the French Embassy in Malaysia while the IsDB/Campus France scholarship programme is funded by the IsDB and the French Embassy in Malaysia.

For the coming academic year, these scholarships amount to more than RM280,000.

Launched during the movement control order (MCO) in April and May, the two new programmes offer scholarships to Malaysian students pursuing bachelor and master studies in French universities.

The call for applications will be published on a yearly basis.

For 2020, the six candidates – Kah Yan Pong, Annie Poh Yee Chi, Hui Min Leow, Nurul Zulaikha Azmi Murad, Chua Aslina An Ping and Muhammad Issul Azri Zainol Azman – will be able to study in some of the most renowned institutions in France, according to the 2020 Shanghai International University ranking.

Their fields of study are accounting and finance, nutrition and public health, performing arts, French as a foreign language, medicine and computer science.

The French Ambassador to Malaysia Frédéric Laplanche said: “The development of these two scholarship programmes will highly contribute to the academic cooperation between France and Malaysia, and should stimulate further the exchanges of students between our two countries. These programmes complement the Hubert Curien Partnership ‘Hibiscus’ (PHC Hibiscus), which aims to strengthen the scientific research cooperation and support bilateral mobility of young researchers.”

University cooperation between Malaysia and France was launched almost 50 years ago, when a technical and cultural cooperation agreement was signed in 1972. Enhanced and diversified over the years, this cooperation is now strongly supported by the MFUC, a bilateral body created in 2006 under the authority of the Malaysian and French governments.

The MFUC was involved in the implementation of the two new scholarship programmes. It not only ensures the promotion of the educational systems of France and Malaysia and the facilitation of bilateral agreements, but also directly advises and helps students for their mobility.
