PETALING JAYA: Observing selfquarantine has not stopped Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Cabinet ministers from discharging their official duties.

Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said although physical Cabinet meetings were put on hold, ministers continued to work daily from home.

“The Cabinet has not stopped functioning as affected ministers are all working from home.

“The Prime Minister is still giving us daily instructions from his end and we are carrying out our ministerial duties every day,” he said when contacted.

Wan Junaidi, who is not among ministers ordered to undergo selfquarantine, said while some decisions might require face-to-face interactions, most were done through circulars.

“Almost half of ministerial instructions are carried out through circulars,” he said.

He said currently, the Prime Minister’s Office was looking into using available communication technology such as video conferencing for the coming Cabinet meetings.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof dismissed claims by certain quarters that self-quarantine of several Cabinet ministers had affected government administration.

“There is no such thing. Work can still be done through digital platforms and by way of instructions issued through circulars,” Fadillah said.

Fadillah was among several ministers undergoing self-quarantine for 14 days until Oct 16.

On Oct 3, he attended a Special Cabinet meeting with Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri, who tested positive for Covid-19.

Muhyiddin, who chaired the meeting, also has to self-quarantine.
