KULAI: A bride and her family, eagerly waiting for the groom’s entourage at their home in Taman Lagenda Putra, here, were instead “greeted” by three masked and armed robbers.

The three suspects, armed with parang and wearing ski masks, barged into the house as the front gate and doors were not locked during the incident that took place at 7.20am on Oct 3, said Kulai OCPD Supt Tok Beng Yeow.

He said one of the suspects told the people inside the house to go into the master bedroom while the other two ransacked the single-storey house.

“The suspects made off with valuables such as the victims’ MyKads, cellphones, a camera and RM61,000.

“The five victims, aged 28 to 65 years old, were left unharmed,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 395 and Section 397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery, which provides for imprisonment up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

The 28-year-old bride, known only as Choo, said she was in the middle of her wedding preparations when the robbery took place.

She said she was initially scheduled to be picked up by the groom at around 8am.

Choo said the situation at the time was chaotic and she only realised they were being robbed when the armed suspects told her family to remain inside the bedroom.

“After the fiasco and the arrival of the police at our home, I managed to leave my house at 9.30am for our wedding ceremony,” she said.

“This is a very unique wedding experience, one that I will never forget for the wrong reasons.”
