NEW measures must be strictly observed when evacuating flood victims to reduce the risk of Covid19 transmission, reported Berita Harian.

Ferrying evacuees in large numbers in lorries and preparing food via gotong-royong (communal work) is no longer allowed.

Terengganu Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt Kol Che Adam A Rahman said this was part of the new standard operating procedures outlined at the national level to contain Covid-19 transmission during mass evacuation exercises.

“APM personnel will, via the state disaster management secretariat, undergo special training on new normal procedures in managing temporary evacuation centres,” he said.

Even rescue operation procedures need to be changed.

“It is even more challenging to prepare food without communal assistance.

“We need to engage caterers. Mass prayers are also not allowed at the evacuation centres,” he said.

> Actress Betty Banafe, whose marriage ended last year, said her two children will always be her prime concern, reported Kosmo!.

“They are my priority. They are the trust and responsibilities given to me,” she added.

Betty, who acted in the 2017 film Hijabista Ballet, has a six-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son.

She said her family and friends were shocked when her seven-year marriage came to an end.

“Perhaps in the eyes of others, we seemed like a happy couple. But only we know the truth,” she said, adding that she had faith that God would provide for her.
