A special date for their Big Day

- By JUNAID IBRAHIM newsdesk@thestar.com.my

Hundreds of couples across the country, like these lovebirds at the Thean Hou Temple in Kuala Lumpur, chose 10.10.2020 to tie the knot. Meanwhile, several others are hoping for Sweetheart Visas so that they could be reunited with their partners overseas.

PETALING JAYA: Despite having to call off their wedding reception, a couple in Kuala Lumpur proceeded with their church ceremony in the new normal.

The groom, Winson Lee, said it was an anxiety-inducing experience to plan a wedding during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We were worried that we had to cancel the church ceremony. In the end, we didn’t have to do that and kept the guest list to only family and some volunteers,” the 31-year-old finance executive said.

Lee said he made it clear to his guests to follow the standard operating procedure throughout the ceremony.

“I also advised the guests not to come if they have high temperature, above 70 years of age or if they had been to Kedah and Sabah recently.”

The wedding was streamed live through the church’s YouTube channel to share their big day with families and friends who could not attend.

“We chose the date 10.10 because I sometimes have trouble remembering dates, even my wife’s birthday!

“So I made sure to choose a date that is easy to remember so I won’t forget future anniversaries,” he said.

Lee added that although the ceremony had to be scaled down, they were thankful for it.

“It has certainly made the start of our marriage very meaningful.”

Lee tied the knot with Clarissa Chung, 26, after two years of courtship.

Chung is a journalist at Star Media Group.
