Diver is fighting fit and ready to take on the world

PETALING JAYA: Tokyo Olympics-bound diver Wendy Ng Yan Yee (pic) is in upbeat spirit despite having had no chance to compete this year.

The Covid-19 pandemic has halted all competitio­ns but Wendy is all smiles as she has, for the first time, been injury-free.

The 27-year-old has taken advantage of the long break to make a full recovery from her shoulder and back problems.

“I went for the shoulder operation two years ago but it still felt painful at times.

“But since the Covid-19 pandemic, I had more time to recuperate and feel so much better now.

“I feel I’ll be ready to challenge the world’s best when competitio­ns resumes next year.

“I hope it will be the first time I can look forward to an Olympic campaign without any injuries,” said Wendy, who reached the Olympic 3m springboar­d individual final in

Wendy will be making her third successive Olympics appearance in Tokyo next year.

She made the cut by reaching the final at the World Aquatics Championsh­ips in Gwangju, South Korea, last year but her mission is not over yet.
