PETALING JAYA: Tokyo Olympics-bound diver Wendy Ng Yan Yee (pic) is in upbeat spirit despite having had no chance to compete this year.

The Covid-19 pandemic has halted all competitions but Wendy is all smiles as she has, for the first time, been injury-free.

The 27-year-old has taken advantage of the long break to make a full recovery from her shoulder and back problems.

“I went for the shoulder operation two years ago but it still felt painful at times.

“But since the Covid-19 pandemic, I had more time to recuperate and feel so much better now.

“I feel I’ll be ready to challenge the world’s best when competitions resumes next year.

“I hope it will be the first time I can look forward to an Olympic campaign without any injuries,” said Wendy, who reached the Olympic 3m springboard individual final in

Wendy will be making her third successive Olympics appearance in Tokyo next year.

She made the cut by reaching the final at the World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, last year but her mission is not over yet.
