SINCE its inception 26 years ago, the Star Education Fund has benefitted 4,172 underserved and bright Malaysian students, with a value of RM144.88mil.

This year alone, a total of 122 scholarships valued at RM8.3mil were awarded to deserving students.

Star Education Fund manager Susanna Kuan said the success of the fund was largely due to their partners-in-education, some of whom have been on board since its launch on March 24, 1994.

“This year, we have 30 partners who share our vision of making quality education accessible to high-performing talents.”

It is without a doubt that the fund, launched by the late Tan Sri Dr Sulaiman Daud, who was the Education Minister at the time, together with its partners-in-education, have changed the lives of many deserving young minds by providing them opportunities to obtain quality education.

Thanking them for their support, Kuan said the company looked forward to working hand in hand with them to continue providing an avenue for aspiring young Malaysians to reach for the stars as well as to become contributing members of society and the world.

“The young generation are capable and talented to soar to greater heights and achieve remarkable goals with the right support and guidance.”

Kuan encouraged students to apply for the fund next year when applications open.

While good grades are important, she said students need not be straight-A scorers to secure a scholarship as the fund is needbased.

“Scoring straight As is not the sole criteria of securing the scholarship. Participation in extracurricular activities are taken into consideration as well.

“How applicants carry themselves during the interviews, family background and co-curricular participation matters too,” she said.

To be eligible for the Star Education Fund, students must be Malaysian citizens no older than 25 years of age as of Jan 1 for undergraduate courses. The scholarships cover a wide range of fields and disciplines, from entry-level courses to undergraduate education and professional studies.

The scholarships are bond-free.

Every scholarship application will be vetted by representatives from The Star and its partner institutions.
