Five new clusters bring nationwide total to 59

PETALING JAYA: Five new clusters have emerged, bringing the total number of active clusters nationwide to 59.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said three new clusters were recorded in Sabah and one each in Selangor and Labuan.

“The Kasih cluster in Lahad Datu saw 34 positive cases, followed by Surat cluster in Sandakan with 25 cases and Khazanah cluster in Lahad Datu with 14 cases.

“The Sungei Way cluster in Petaling, Gombak and Titiwangsa has 18 positive cases while the Bah Bundle cluster in Labuan with three cases,” he told a press conference.

Of the 161 clusters so far, Dr Noor Hisham said the authoritie­s had succeeded in eradicatin­g 102 clusters.

Malaysia recorded 561 new cases and two deaths yesterday.

Dr Noor Hisham said the two fatalities were in Sandakan and Tawau.

The total accumulati­ve Covid-19 cases in the country stood at 15,657 cases with 157 deaths.

Of the total new cases, eight were imported comprising Indonesia (three cases), China (two), Singapore, Cambodia and Saudi Arabia (one each).

The highest number of localised cases were recorded in Sabah with 488 cases, followed by Selangor (25), Kedah (16), Federal Territory (eight), Labuan (five), Johor, Melaka and Terengganu (three each), Perak and

Penang (one each).

Dr Noor Hisham said that the 553 localised cases involved 494 Malaysian citizens and 59 foreigners.

“A total of 11 cases involved those returning from Sabah.

“This brings the total number with travel history to Sabah to 353 cases since Sept 20,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

At present, 90 patients were warded in the intensive care units with 29 of them needing ventilatio­n support.
