Masterplan for Belaga drafted, says Sarawak CM
SIBU: The state government has drafted a masterplan to develop Belaga, which is located in the upper reaches of the Rajang river, says Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The Chief Minister said the plan would include the development of new residential and commercial areas, as well as the development of the area across Belaga, which would be connected to the Bakun hydroelectric dam area.
He said roads connecting Belaga with Kapit and Bintulu would also be built, in addition to erecting telecommunication towers that use better information technology.
“Although the construction of the roads would cost a lot, if our intentions are good (to help the people), God will help us.
“This is the government’s plan for the future.
“We need to build towers so that Belaga will not be left out of development,” he said during the opening ceremony of the Belaga waterfront in Belaga town, about 410km from here.
The RM20mil allocated to develop the Belaga Town Square would create a new landscape for the city.
He said Sarawak’s political and economic stability allowed the state to generate its own income which in turn could be used for continuous development.
