Proton launches compact SUV with four variants

SHAH ALAM: It’s official! After being the talk of the own for over a year, Proton has launched its much-anticipate­d X50 compact sports utility vehicle (SUV).

The B-segment SUV, developed in partnershi­p with China’s Geely automotive group, was launched online yesterday in light of Covid19 safeguards.

Three of its four variants are priced below RM100,000 – the entry-level Standard comes at an attractive RM79,200, Executive at RM84,800 and Premium at RM93,200.

The X50 Flagship is priced just over RM103,300.

All prices are on-the-road without insurance but with Penjana sales tax exemption in Peninsular Malaysia accounted for. The vehicles are priced at RM2,000 more in Sabah and Sarawak.

The X50 comes with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty, sweetened with a five-year data package limited to 1GB per month.

Also included are five free-labour service for the first 30,000 bookings made by Dec 31, as well as a special interest rate starting from 2.22% per annum and a special Proton Insurance Programme.

The insurance programme comes with a waiver of betterment costs of up to 10 years, agreed value coverage of up to 12 years and key care cover of up to RM1,000.

Flood Relief Allowance of up to RM1,000, all driver coverage and Personal Accident of up to RM15,000 are also included.

The key features of the SUV include a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbo engine, seven-speed dual clutch transmissi­on, full LED headlamps, rear air- conditione­r vents, voice-controlled infotainme­nt system and reverse camera.

The Flagship variant gets a more powerful 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbo engine with direct injection technology, panoramic sunroof, dual tone exterior and the Advanced Driver Assistance System that helps the driver steer, brake and maintain a safe distance with the car in front.

Available colours for the Flagship and Premium variants are snow white, armour silver, jet grey, ocean blue, citric orange and passion red.

The Executive variant comes in all colours except passion red while the Standard variant is offered in snow white, armour silver and ocean blue.

Proton Edar chief executive officer Roslan Abdullah said the national car maker was confident that customers would be pleased with the specificat­ions, price and benefits offered with the X50.

“There is a variant to suit every need and budget and we hope that just like the Proton X70, our new SUV will bring new customers to our showrooms,” he said.

Proton said it has garnered more than 20,000 bookings for the X50 since orders commenced on Sept 16.
