Man held for insulting royal institutio­n

KUALA LUMPUR: A 52-year-old man has been detained in connection with a seditious statement allegedly insulting the royal institutio­n, Bukit Aman revealed.

CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said the suspect was arrested in Cheras on Monday.

“The suspect allegedly questioned on Twitter a video which was uploaded on the National Security Council’s website regarding Wasiat Raja-Raja Melayu (Will of the Malay Rulers).

The suspect is expected to be remanded and the matter is being investigat­ed under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communicat­ion and Multimedia Act 1998.

Comm Huzir said Bukit Aman CID’s Special Investigat­ion Unit was also investigat­ing three other cases allegedly insulting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on social media.

“The alleged insults were posted on Facebook and Twitter,” Comm Huzir said.

He urged the people to abide by the principals of the Rukun Negara.
