King to MPs: Let’s support Budget 2021
King again reminds all MPs to support and pass Budget 2021
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong also urges them to stop the politicking and give priority to the well-being of the rakyat. It’s the third time in less than a week that His Majesty has said this, the last after meeting Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at Istana Negara.
PETALING JAYA: For the third time in five days, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al- Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah advised all MPs, regardless of party, to stop the political squabbling and prioritise the well-being of the people.
In a statement yesterday, Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the King urged all the MPs from both the ruling and opposition parties to give their full support and pass Budget 2021.
Sultan Abdullah also, according to Ahmad Fadil, expressed his full trust in the leadership of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to lead the country at a time when the nation is faced with various crises, including the Covid-19 pandemic and economic slowdown.
“Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah advises members of the Dewan Rakyat to give their full support to Budget 2021 for the well-being and the sustainability of their livelihoods, as well as the recovery of the country’s economy which has been affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Sultan Abdullah stated that Budget 2021 is of utmost importance to the government and the authorities, especially to the frontliners on duty to continue, and to launch policies and efforts to curb and handle the pandemic from spreading.
“Sultan Abdullah urged the members of the Dewan Rakyat to respect his earlier calls to immediately stop all political squabbling and prioritise the welfare of the people and well-being of the country so that Budget 2021 will be passed without any disruption.
“The King reminded the members of the Dewan Rakyat that political squabbles for the personal interests of their own will only be a loss to the country and the people who are suffering from the pandemic will be the victims,” said Ahmad Fadil.
He added that the King said this after an audience with Muhyiddin at a pre-Cabinet meeting in Istana Negara yesterday.
Ahmad Fadil also stated that in the more than an hour meeting with Muhyiddin, Sultan Abdullah was briefed on Budget 2021, which will be presented in Parliament on Nov 6.
“The King expressed his hopes that Budget 2021 will stress on the economic recovery and the wellbeing and sustainability of the livelihoods of the people who were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“He also stated that he has full trust in the ability of Prime Minister Muhyiddin to lead the country at a time the country is being tested by various crises,” said Ahmad Fadil, adding that the pre-Cabinet meeting was a main weekly routine of the King to discuss and exchange views with the Prime Minister on issues pertaining to the government.
This is the third time that the King had called all MPs to stop politicking and to give priority to the people’s well-being.
On Oct 24, Sultan Abdullah urged the people to remain calm and not speculate over a meeting he had with Muhyiddin, stating that the well-being of the people was of utomost priority.
On Oct 25, after a meeting with the Malay Rulers, the King reminded all politicians to immediately put a stop to all forms of politicking that could disrupt the stability of the country.
“Sultan Abdullah also said that there was no need for Members of Parliament to continue their irresponsible actions that could disrupt the stability of the existing government,” he said in the statement on Oct 25.
Ahmad Fadil also stated that Sultan Abdullah and the Malay Rulers had gone through the proposal to declare a state of emergency and felt that the government had managed to contain the pandemic effectively.
