Hamzah: Bersatu’s membership more than doubled since last AGM

PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) now has a membership of 508,725, more than double the figure since the last annual general meeting (AGM), says party secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.

“Bersatu AGM which was held virtually on Nov 28 due to the Covid-19 pandemic was participated by 502 delegates from all levels of the party.

“The virtual AGM had to be held to fulfil the rulings of the Registrar of Societies.

“According to our party records, the total number of members now stands at 508,725 as compared to 222,980 members when we held our second AGM last year,” said Hamzah in a statement yesterday.

He said that 171 divisions and 2,579 branches held their annual meetings prior to the AGM.

“Besides the motions on economy, education and social issues, the delegates unanimously agreed to endorse the amendments presented by the Constitution Amendment Committee.

“This included the amendment to form a new wing of associate members.

“Such amendments will strengthen the party organisation and grassroots at all levels.

“This also proves the openness and inclusiveness of the party when it comes to accepting members and making policies,” said Hamzah.

He said this would further ensure the direction of Bersatu as part of Perikatan Nasional and the readiness of its leaders to cooperate politically with its allies such as Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.

Under the current party constitution, Bersatu only accepts bumiputras as full members while other races joining the party are regarded as associate members.

Bersatu held its third AGM virtually by linking delegates from 14 states nationwide via Facebook on Saturday.
