Nigel Tay named new singer-songwriter of the year

MALAYSIAN Nigel Tay won the New Singer-Songwriter of the Year award at the Asian Music Festival held in Shenzhen, China, on Sunday.

“I will continue to work hard to produce more songs,” said the Kuala Lumpur native in a video uploaded on Weibo, China Press reported.

Thanking those who had given him the recognitio­n, he said: “This is my first award after the release of my EP. That’s why the award is especially meaningful to me.”

He had released his first EP in May which comprised five selfpenned songs.

Tay signed with Warner Music China in 2019, a year after his participat­ion in Sing! China, a singing competitio­n on TV.

The graduate of Berklee College of Music specialise­s in pop and R&B music.

The cat survived but it suffered a broken leg.

The tragedy on Monday happened in Tainan, Taiwan, Sin Chew Daily reported.

The 32-year-old man was said to have lost control of his car and rammed into a bridge pier along a highway in the Zhuwei vicinity, Yujing district.

A road surveillan­ce camera video showed the cat escaping from the wreckage moments after the collision.

Police said the car caught fire. The charred remains of the victim were found inside the vehicle.

Several police officers found the cat later.

> Kwong Wah Yit Poh reported that Hong Kong singer Lillian Ho was forced to come out of retirement after her pilot husband had to take a pay cut due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The couple have three children. Ho’s husband had been the breadwinne­r since her retirement.

The 40-year-old Ho said she had started to record new songs and do live shows again under the Emperor Entertainm­ent Group.

“Before I had children, I spent quite a lot of money unnecessar­ily.

“But now, I feel a great sense of responsibi­lity and I can plan better,” she added.
