A gift of free Raya calls

Telcos band together to help M’sians keep in touch with loved ones

-

Call and wish your friends and family around Malaysia “Selamat Hari Raya” for free up to 10am today.

This is a fitting gift from local telecommunication service providers, who have banded together to give Malaysians the opportunity to be closer to their loved ones, even as many are forced to be apart this year due to travel restrictions during the ongoing movement control order (MCO).

In a statement yesterday, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said the deal was made possible with the help of 10 local telcos.

“I hope this will at least help Malaysians keep in touch with their loved ones as they cannot go visiting under MCO 3.0 starting May 12 to June 7.

“Thank you to all telcos that made this possible, and to all Malaysians for complying with the SOP to curb

Covid-19 infections. We pray that we will be able to flatten the curve soon and continue with our lives as before,” he said.

The free call facility was initiated by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, and can be enjoyed by subscribers of Celcom, Digi, Maxis, REDTone, TM Unifi, TIME dotCom, Tune Talk, U Mobile, Yoodo, and YTL Communications.

In a separate statement, Celcom

Axiata Bhd said Celcom customers can also stay connected with family and friends via video call this Hari Raya through its ongoing free 1GB daily data provision.

“Malaysians are facing challenging times due to the rise in Covid19 cases, and many would be celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri away from their loved ones while keeping safe in their homes,” said Celcom chief executive officer Idham Nawawi.

He added that the industry’s collaboration with the government to offer free nationwide calls was a way to help raise spirits in these challenging times.
