While there are those who flout Covid-19 rules, there are many others who recognise and appreciate the contributions of fellow frontliners who have been labouring day and night since the first case was detected in Malaysia more than a year ago.

Among them was despatch worker Muhamad Azman Abdullah, 33, who described frontliners as the country’s “superheroes”.

“I am thankful for the contribution of frontliners keeping everyone safe. They are our superheroes,” he said.

Parwin Kumar, 66, the owner of a fabric shop in Penang Bazaar, said it has been a year since his son, a second-year medical officer in a

Johor clinic, came home.

“He has to carry out swab tests besides his usual duties and even works on weekends.

“Although we are worried about his safety and health, we know he is doing his best to keep our country safe,” he said.

Handicraft seller Ooi Cheng Yin, 67, thanked frontliners for their tireless efforts.

“I understand how difficult it is for medical workers to juggle work and personal life, especially as my son-in-law is a doctor.

“He is very careful when it comes to disinfecting himself after work,” she said, adding that he and her daughter live in Kuala Lumpur with their children aged eight and 10.

“I miss my grandchildren dearly ... I have not seen them since the movement control order in March last year,” said Ooi.

Tailor Abdul Aziz Mohd Hussain, 68, urged the public to be careful and follow the standard operating procedure strictly.

“We are all at risk of contracting the virus, which is our common enemy.

“We have to win this fight together. We should do our best to make sure we are well protected and not overwork the frontliners,” he said.
