Selangor top cop: Just stay home for Aidilfitri

Hari Raya Aidilfitri is not just about visiting friends and family, says the Selangor police chief.

Comm Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said those celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri should already know that it is not just about having fun and being around friends and family.

“This is a celebration after completing the fasting month.

“On top of that we are also facing a global pandemic, so those planning to visit relatives or friends should abandon their plans and stay home,” he told reporters at the Selangor police headquarters yesterday.

He said compliance teams would be making their rounds on Hari Raya and the days after to ensure everyone was following the standard operating procedures.

“We will also be increasing the number of roadblocks with more mobile roadblocks planned on top of the ones already in place around Selangor.

“Overall, we are satisfied with the compliance in Selangor with an estimated 95% compliance rate observed,” he said.

Comm Arjunaidi added that since May 6, 313 compounds were issued to SOP violators.

When asked, he said seven members of the police force were currently Covid-19 positive in Selangor, part of the 36 now under quarantine.

“Cumulatively, 348 police personnel in Selangor had tested positive for Covid-19,” he said.

On Tuesday, Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said police compliance teams will be patrolling neighbourhoods here during Hari Raya to ensure there are no visits or open houses taking place.

They would tighten compliance checks in the run-up to Hari Raya Aidilfitri today.

“During Hari Raya Aidilfitri, these teams will be out patrolling neighbourhoods.

“I want to also remind those who organise such events could face a RM25,000 compound while those caught visiting would be given RM5,000 compounds,” he was quoted saying.
