Jack Ma emerges from seclusion to attend office party

-

ALIBABA founder Jack Ma (pic) has appeared at the e-commerce giant’s annual “Ali Day” for staff and family after not being seen in public for a long time, reported Guang Ming Daily.

Ma, who sported a blue shirt and white pants, was seen smiling at staff during the event at the headquarters in Hangzhou.

However, he seemed to have lost a lot of weight and his hair had greyed considerably.

The public has since speculated if the change in his appearance was due to the company being under pressure by the Chinese government.

The billionaire has kept a low profile since delivering a speech which criticised China’s financial regulators in October last year.

Ma’s last public appearance was during a video conference meeting of the Russian Geographical Society with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

A member of the society’s board of trustees, Ma did not speak at the meeting.

> Oriental Daily reported that fans of Hong Kong actors Chow Yun Fatt and Nicholas Tse were all aflutter after the younger celebrity shared a selfie of them.

Tse, 40, uploaded a photo of himself with the 65-year-old actor on his social media a few days ago.

This prompted a fan to share a photo of Tse being held in Chow’s arms when he was still a child, adding that Chow had to buy the boy a soda after he made him cry.

Both Chow and Tse, who is the son of actor Patrick Tse, had co-starred in the high stakes flick From Vegas to Macau in 2014.

> China Press reported that a bride in Hanoi, Vietnam, received 14 gold necklaces, VND 500mil (RM89,329) and a house as dowry during her wedding.

Videos of the wedding in October last year recently attracted public attention on social media due to the large amount of the dowry.

Taking to social media to share her love story, the bride said she had been in love with her husband for a long time before finally getting the green light to marry.

“I did not expect there would be much dowry and I could not control my emotions during the wedding ceremony.

“I am really thankful and grateful. I also bowed to my parents-in-law as a sign of respect and appreciation,” she said, adding that the couple both came from rich families.
