Daily cases still above 4,000 mark

Selangor records highest number of infections, followed by S’wak and Johor

PETALING JAYA: The number of Covid-19 cases remains above the 4,000 mark with 4,113 new infections over the past 24 hours, says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Health director-general said Selangor had the highest number of infections with 1,269 cases, followed by Sarawak (533) and Johor (335).

“In Selangor, 872 cases were detected from the screening of close contacts, 178 cases from clusters and 219 cases from others,” he said in a statement.

Of the total cases yesterday, 3,791 involved Malaysians while 321 were foreigners with only one imported case.

Dr Noor Hisham said another 34 people died from the disease, pushing the death toll to 1,822.

Of the fatalities, eight were from Selangor, six each from Johor and Kuala Lumpur, four from Kelantan, three from Kedah, two each from Sabah and Melaka and one each from Sarawak, Perak and Terengganu.

“A total of 482 patients are being treated in intensive care units, with 250 of them requiring ventilator support,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

He added that 13 new clusters were detected, bringing the number of active clusters to 461.

Of the new clusters, four involved workplaces, four in the community, two from religious groups, two from the education sector and one from a high-risk group.

The Jalan Perindustr­ian Balakong workplace cluster recorded the highest number of cases with 138 infections following the screening of 276 people.

As of yesterday, there are 41,471 active cases with 4,190 recoveries.
