Village in Alor Gajah and another in Tawau under EMCO

KUALA LUMPUR: Two villages in Alor Gajah, Melaka and Tawau, Sabah will be placed under the enhanced movement control order from tomorrow.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that at Kampung Lubok Redan, Alor Gajah, a steady increase in cases was observed over two weeks with 56 Covid-19 cases detected so far.

“Meanwhile, at Lorong 2, Kampung Kongsi 8, Tawau, 15 cases were detected following 56 screenings.

“Following a risk assessment, the government agreed to place both localities under the EMCO from May 16 to May 29,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Ismail Sabri also said that the enhanced MCO at SMK Madai, Kunak, Sabah would be extended from May 15 to May 28.

“To date, 895 screenings were conducted there, with 42 cases detected. The Health Ministry has informed us that there were still 51 samples awaiting results,” he said, adding that the government agreed to extend the enhanced MCO there, which was supposed to end yesterday, following a risk assessment by the MCO Technical Committee.

Meanwhile, the minister said the enhanced MCO at Kampung Bergosong, Tawau would end as scheduled today.

“To date, 499 screenings were conducted with 28 cases detected.

“The Health Ministry confirmed that the remaining active cases showed a downward trend while all positive cases had received medical treatment and their close contacts had also been isolated,” he noted.

On MCO compliance, Ismail Sabri said 14 people had been remanded while 278 others were issued compounds for violations on Thursday.

“Among the violations committed were failure to provide entry log or equipment (75), not wearing face masks (45), not observing physical distancing (62) and 110 other offences.

“The compliance operations task force led by the police comprising 14,179 members, divided into 3,077 teams, conducted 56,925 checks on Thursday.”
