Fellow athletes remember Haziq as a kind and endearing person

PETALING JAYA: National archer Haziq Kamaruddin, whose sudden death shocked the Malaysian sports community yesterday, will be remembered by fellow athletes for his kind and endearing personalit­y.

Olympian diver Wendy Ng Yan Yee, who knew Haziq as a fellow student and course mate at Universiti Malaya, said she will cherish the beautiful moments of their friendship forever.

“Bro, you will be missed forever and always. The beautiful moments you shared with us will always speak of the great person that you were.

“Rest in peace,” she said in her Instagram posting, accompanie­d by a crying emoji.

Fellow national archer Mohd Akmal Nor Hasrin also penned a moving tribute to Haziq, who has also been his roommate in Bukit Jalil and whenever they go for overseas competitio­ns.

“I hope you will be in peace over there my friend. You have been my roommate and were always with me since 2015. May your soul rest in peace,” he said.

“Thank You, Haziq Kamaruddin. A fellow Olympian and also a cheerful teammate who has made Malaysian archery great. Your hard work for Malaysia will always be remembered. May your soul rest in peace,” said former Olympian archer Cheng Chu Sian in a Facebook posting.

Chu Sian competed in the 2012 London Olympics with Haziq and Khairul Anuar Mohamad.

His teammate Zulfadhli Ruslan was among the first to express his condolence­s over Haziq’s passing on his Facebook account.

“I regret to inform you that my friend Haziq Kamaruddin had returned to his creator this morning. May his soul be showered with blessings and placed among the pious. Let’s pray for him. Al-Fatihah,” he wrote.
