First CNY do in three years for these kids

-

GEORGE TOWN: Songs, food and performances were all packed into the Cerebral Palsy Childrens’ Association of Penang’s Chinese New Year celebration that was held for the first time in three years.

The event in Jalan Masjid Negeri saw more than 100 attendees, comprising residents and their families.

Association deputy vice-president Tan Leong Theng said they could not hold the CNY event because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but with everything more or less back to normal, the committee decided to give residents a treat.

Other than having fun, the recent get-together was also to foster a closer relationship between teachers, residents, parents and alumni.

The highlight of the day was the fan dance by two alumni and a touching sign language performance to the song Listen to Me, Thank You by some of the residents’ mothers.

There was also a lion dance performance and renditions of CNY songs by residents who were guided by teachers and their parents.

Throughout the celebration, a live band entertained the guests with songs like Rindu Bayangan by Carefree and You Drive Me Crazy by Shakin’ Stevens, among others.

Also present were association honorary secretary A. Valliammal and committee members.

The 61-year-old association, which currently has 110 registered residents, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing academic, rehabilitation and vocational services for the development of individuals with cerebral palsy.
