Brewery’s campaign raises Rm20mil for vernacular schools

ten vernacular schools received aid from the top ten Charity Campaign, the main community engagement programme of Carlsberg Malaysia.

After a three-year absence, the programme that began in 1987, returned to raise Rm20.5mil.

the programme also broke its fundraisin­g record when it drummed up nearly Rm7.8mil in a single charity concert, with the funds helping SJK(C) sin Ya in Penang to build more facilities.

two sabah schools, SJK(C) syn Hua and SJK(C) Lahad datu Middle school, benefitted from a separate fundraiser that netted Rm1.8mil.

SJK(C) sin Ya principal Beh Khoon seng described the top ten campaign as a platform that had helped pupils and teachers become aware of the urgent need to protect the environmen­t.

Lahad datu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Middle schools chairman tan Cheng teng said top ten’s fundraisin­g success clearly illustrate­d the power of community support.

Rawang’s SJK(C) san Yuk principal Lim Kim Leong expressed gratitude for Carlsberg’s help.

“We are now able to allocate more resources towards improving the school’s facilities to benefit our pupils,” said Lim.

top ten has contribute­d Rm568mil over 33 years to benefit 684 vernacular schools nationwide.

Partnering with Zero Waste Malaysia this year, the brewery focused on promoting proper waste management for a cleaner and greener environmen­t.
