Molotov cocktail thrown at KK Super Mart sparks probe
Police are investigating an incident where a Molotov cocktail was hurled at a KK Super Mart outlet in Bidor near here.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusof Hassan Basri said they have obtained CCTV footage of the incident, which occurred at 5.35am yesterday.
“We will be combing through the footage that we have obtained for our investigation.
“We are still investigating how many people were involved and the vehicle used,” he told reporters after launching a commercial crime phone scam prevention programme with Pos Malaysia at the state police contingent headquarters here yesterday.
In a statement shared on the state police’s Facebook page,
Comm Mohd Yusri said CCTV footage showed a dark-coloured car with a red “Lalamove” sticker on its door had parked by the roadside.
A man then alighted from the car before throwing a bottle at the shop and fleeing.
Comm Mohd Yusri said the Molotov cocktail that was thrown at the shop hit the five-foot walkway in front of the shop, but it did not ignite.
He said the glass shards from the bottle were found in front of the shop.
“We also found some objects resembling fireworks and liquid we believed to be petrol.
“A worker was inside the shop when she heard the sound of broken glass,” he said, adding that the shop was not damaged.
Comm Mohd Yusri said the case would be investigated under
Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief.
“Those found guilty can be jailed for up to two years, fined, or both.
“We urge those with information to call the investigating officer Insp Norseha Baharudin
at 05-4011861,” he said.
“We also advise people not to be involved in criminal activities,” he added.
The convenience chain recently came under fire after its branch in Bandar Sunway, Selangor, was found selling socks printed with
the word “Allah”.
The company issued an apology and conducted checks at its outlets nationwide.
Comm Mohd Yusri also said that police have received 22 reports throughout Perak regarding the issue.
