LUMPUR: Education institutions founded by MCA will begin new collaborations with more Chinese universities following a bilateral dialogue with the Chinese Education Minister, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

He said UTAR and Xidian University will jointly establish the China-malaysia Institute of Science and Technology Innovation (CM-ISTI), while TAR UMT and Guangxi Financial Vocational College will establish the China-malaysia Institute of Modern Craftsmanship of Digital Economy.

UTAR will also set up the Confucius Institute at its Sg Long campus in collaboration with Dezhou University.

Dr Wee said that MCA’S VTAR Institute will also begin working with China’s vocational education institutions to learn from their successes and help VTAR become a top vocational training provider in South-east Asia in the next 10 years.

“I believe this will mark the beginning of a more highly efficient collaboration between the two countries,” Dr Wee said in a statement after the dialogue between MCA leaders and the Secretary of the Communist Party of China Leading Group of the Ministry of Education and Chinese Education Minister Huai Jinpeng and his delegation on Friday evening.

Dr Wee said the dialogue gave the party an opportunity to learn from the Chinese government about bolstering Malaysia’s education services, particularly in mathematics, science, and vocational training.

He also spoke with the Chinese Education Ministry about the party’s goal to further develop its educational offerings.

“I shared that MCA has set two main objectives for future development in the education field – to improve the country’s proficiency in mathematics and science and promote vocational training.

“We hope to achieve a win-win situation by collaborating with our Chinese partners in these two areas,” he said.

He added the collaborations will mark another milestone as both nations celebrate 50 years of bilateral ties this year.

“Let us continue to work towards a stronger bilateral relationship and a better future for the people of our countries,” he said.
