PETALING JAYA: Delegates from China-based China Daily Asia Pacific paid a courtesy visit to Menara Star here to learn more about the inner workings of Star Media Group Bhd (SMG), Malaysia’s largest English news media group.

Led by China Daily Group deputy editor-in-chief Zhou Li, the group behind the Englishlanguage portal consisted of two Hong Kong Legislative Council Members, Lee Tsz King Dominic and Lam Lam Nixie, along with other key China Daily staff and local influencers.

The group was met on arrival by SMG chief content officer Datin Paduka Esther Ng, The Star managing editor Brian Martin and SMG chief business officer Lydia Wang, who gave them a guided tour of the Star Gallery that is designed to highlight the media organisation’s impactful stories and events throughout its over five decade-long history. The group then visited SMG’S content department, where they were given further insights on the inner workings of the media company’s operations.

The delegation then met and chatted with SMG group chief executive officer Chan Seng Fatt.

Zhou, who had visited Menara Star before, was still excited at what he saw.

“While the modern print media (industry) has generally become pessimistic, the vitality and quality of journalism in The Star’s thick newspapers is still very impressive. I hope we can work out the details together for future collaborations, especially when it comes to issues around Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) aspects,” he said at the end of his visit yesterday.

The delegates later paid a visit to Bernama.
