AS ONE of the most rapidly changing, innovative and enterprising industries in the tech landscape, the video gaming industry constantly comes up with new ways to entice new generations of gamers.

Currently, one of the biggest hits happens to be the ‘hybrid toy/video game’ genre where gamers have to buy plastic action figurines to unlock new characters for them to use ingame.

With its large resource of intellectual properties, Disney Interactive’s Disney Infinity is one of the most popular games, as players are sweeping up figurines of their favourite Disney, Pixar and Marvel characters.

It was even named the bestselling game in its genre in 2014.

With the recent release of Disney Infinity 3.0, Disney Interactive is bound to hit yet another gold mine as the third iteration adds more fan favourite characters from Pixar and Marvel franchises, as well as characters from the newlyacquired Star Wars universe.

New starter packs will be available from Sept 1, at the suggested retail price of RM249.

The starter pack promises a wider breadth of content and variety of gameplay than its predecessors. It includes the Disney Infinity 3.0 Base, video game software, the Star Wars: Twilight of the Republic Play Set, Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker character figures and a web code card that unlocks content for PC and mobile devices.

For Sony PlayStation 4 owners, you can even opt to get the a limited edition starter pack for RM449.

This set comes with both the Twilight of the Republic and Rise Against the Empire Play Sets, as well as a Boba Fett figurine, which will be exclusive to this set for the first few months.

Other than the starter pack, fans will also be able to purchase additional content separately.

They include the Star Wars: Rise Against the Empire Play Set, as well as content that is tied to the highly-anticipated seventh episode of the saga, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Besides the Star Wars sets, there will also be a Pixar Play Set that is based on the Inside Out movie and a new Marvel Play Set which features Hulkbuster Iron Man, Ultron and many more Marvel characters.

Similar to previous releases, Disney Interactive has also added a few new features and concepts to the game.

Disney Infinity 3.0 now comes with a two new multiplayer Toy Box expansion games known as Toy Box Speedway (kart racing) and Toy Box Takeover (actionadventure).

Also, with backward and forward compatibility, gamers will be able to use their figurines from past iterations of the game in the new modes.

Each individual Play Set will be sold for RM139, while figures are priced at RM55.

Power Discs, which give players special abilities in-game, will no longer be sold in blind packs, but will now be sold in packs of four for RM39.

Disney Infinity 3.0 will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC, iOS, and Android.
