Australia Week at Sunway College

-

FELT pretty much like Down Under at the Sunway Campus when the college chose to initiate Australia Week for the first time early this month. Sunway Campus students and staff of various Australian programmes including its Monash University Foundation Year (Mufy), Australian Matriculation (Ausmat), bachelor and degree courses under Victoria University (VU), got to celebrate Aussie culture and values.

The eventful week saw a line-up of exciting events comprising Mufy Sharity Carnival, Australian Slang Competition, Ausmazing Race and Australian football tournaments but commenced with an opening ceremony graced by the Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia himself, Rod Smith.

Other notables included Sunway Group education and healthcare division CEO Dr Lee Weng Keng School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) Board of Western Australia chairman Prof Patrick Garnett and his wife Dr Pam Garnett, Sunway Group Exco member Puan Sri Susan Cheah, Sunway College executive director Teo Ee Sing, Sunway College chief executive Dr Khatijah Khalid and many others.

National anthems Negaraku and Advance Australia Fair were both performed by Jay Teoh of the Ausmat programme, on saxophone. This was a “bottler” and on the whole, as the Aussie’s say “grouse”!

DID YOU KNOW? According to Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia Rod Smith, there are over 24,000 Malaysians enrolled in higher education institutions in Australia and another 20,000 in Malaysia, enrolled in Australian programmes.
