Legoland project for cancer-stricken boy

-

PETALING JAYA: Three friends are leading efforts to bring Lego gifts to cancer-stricken Muhammad Danish Maarif, 11, who longs to visit Legoland in Johor but is no longer able to travel due to his condition.

While appealing to the public to make Danish’s dream a reality, coordinator for the “Legoland for Danish” project Wan Shahriza Wan Ab Rahman said the boy's mother had spoken of his dream to visit Legoland. Also working on the project are Wan Shahriza's friends MaryAnne Isaac Ethan and Maz Waheed.

The project was mooted after it was decided on Saturday that Danish would no longer be receiving medical treatment after cancer cells were found to have spread throughout his body.

“His chemotherapy was stopped, an operation scheduled for him was also cancelled. Danish is now very weak, and was allowed to return home to rest,” Wan Shahriza said in a Facebook posting on Sunday.

“I said to MaryAnne and Maz Waheed, if we cannot take him to Legoland, let’s bring Legoland to him.”

Wan Shahriza said they had initially planned to take Danish, who is suffering from Osteosarcoma, to Legoland after he completed his chemotherapy.

Driven by the generosity and efforts by several Malaysians to bring cheer to Danish, Wan Shahriza took it upon herself to lead the project, and has set Sept 29 as the cutoff date to receive Lego gifts, considering his critical condition.

“We are urging as many people as possible to make Legoland For Danish a reality. Complete your Lego creation, and send them to us. We may not have much time. Also, WhatsApp me pictures of you completing them,” she said.

The gifts can be delivered or sent personally to Wan Shahriza at Maktab Rendah Sains Mara Kuantan, Jalan Tok Sira, 25050 Kuantan.
