‘MOON­ING, STREAK­ING’ NOW A CRIME IN AUSSIE STATE

SYD­NEY: Ex­pos­ing bare but­tocks in pub­lic and run­ning naked in a pub­lic place to shock or amuse have been of­fi­cially made a crime in the Aus­tralian state of Vic­to­ria, it was re­vealed yes­ter­day. “Moon­ing or streak­ing”, which was pre­vi­ously pun­ish­able un­der other laws, has now been specif­i­cally named as of­fence in the amend­ment of the Summary Of­fences Act 1966 that also in­cludes sex­ual crimes. First-time of­fend­ers could face two months in jail while re­peat of­fend­ers could be locked up for six months, ac­cord­ing to the leg­is­la­tion. – dpa
