EX-PARTY BOSS GETS DEATH WITH REPRIEVE FOR GRAFT

BEIJING: China has sentenced the former Communist Party boss from Yunnan province to death with a reprieve for bribery. A death sentence with reprieve typically amounts to life in prison. Bai Enpei, 70, abused his posts, including as Yunnan party chief until 2011, and earlier as the top official in Qinghai province, illegally amassing over 247 million yuan (RM154 million) in assets. “The amount of bribes he accepted was huge, the details of his crimes extremely serious, and their social impact especially pernicious,” a court said. – Reuters
