Philips Light­ing, be­yond il­lu­mi­na­tion

ARMED with typ­i­cal Ben­gali tenac­ity and per­se­ver­ance, Alok Ghose has risen through the ranks first start­ing out his ca­reer in the au­to­mo­tive sec­tor where he honed his en­tre­pre­neur­ial skills, and later moved into the hos­pi­tal­ity in­dus­try. Since 2015, af­ter many years tak­ing on chal­lenges and achiev­ing mile­stones, Ghose is happy to share that he leads Philips Light­ing Malaysia.

With strong busi­ness acu­men, ex­em­plary lead­er­ship skills and a bold and fo­cused vi­sion, Ghose is re­spon­si­ble for the trans­for­ma­tion of Philips Light­ing Malaysia, de­vel­op­ing it from a prod­uct ori­ented com­pany to a light­ing so­lu­tions en­ter­prise.

To­day, Philips Light­ing is known as the pi­o­neer for state-of-the-art dig­i­tal con­nected light­ing, vis­i­ble light com­mu­ni­ca­tions, as well as the In­ter­net of Things for com­mer­cial and con­sumer ap­pli­ca­tions.

Ghose joined Philips in 1996. He was part of the team that her­alded LED tech­nol­ogy into light­ing. The 20-year light­ing in­dus­try vet­eran can proudly at­test to an il­lus­tri­ous ca­reer span­ning across the globe. This in­cludes the Nether­lands where Philips head­quar­ters is lo­cated in. Hav­ing held roles in busi­ness devel­op­ment across five re­gions, Ghose is also known for es­tab­lish­ing a Euro 250mil­lion busi­ness line in the mar­kets un­der his charge. His var­i­ous re­spon­si­bil­i­ties in­clude that in B2B and B2C roles in sales man­age­ment, brand and port­fo­lio man­age­ment, in­ter­na­tional mar­ket­ing and strat­egy, e-com­merce devel­op­ment, and var­i­ous trans­for­ma­tion projects.

Among his cur­rent goals are to cre­ate one of the largest in­stalled base of dig­i­tally syn­chro­nised light­ing points that can com­mu­ni­cate with each other to bring ben­e­fits far be­yond il­lu­mi­na­tion. Proud is he to pro­vide Malaysians with the ex­pe­ri­ence to see, touch and feel cut­ting-edge Philips Con­nected LED light­ing sys­tems for var­i­ous ap­pli­ca­tions in the ex­pe­ri­ence cen­tres at the Philips HQ in Me­nara Axis.

There is ev­ery rea­son for the Ben­gali com­mu­nity to be proud of Ghose. While he has brought hon­our to his peo­ple, his wife and son and the com­pany he rep­re­sents, the holder of an MBA from IMS, In­dore in In­dia who is also a mar­ket­ing and in­ter­na­tional busi­ness spe­cial­ist, strives to keep a good work-home bal­ance while con­tribut­ing to so­ci­ety.

Nev­er­the­less, Ghose is glad to be backed by a com­pany with 125 years of in­no­va­tion and tech­ni­cal prow­ess. He prides him­self in be­ing at the fore­front at Philips Light­ing Malaysia, a com­pany that is “ca­pa­ble in mak­ing Malaysian cities, in­dus­tries, of­fices and homes ‘smarter’ with the sus­tain­able and en­ergy-ef­fi­cient light­ing sys­tems we have to of­fer,” he says.
