Philips Lighting, beyond illumination
ARMED with typical Bengali tenacity and perseverance, Alok Ghose has risen through the ranks first starting out his career in the automotive sector where he honed his entrepreneurial skills, and later moved into the hospitality industry. Since 2015, after many years taking on challenges and achieving milestones, Ghose is happy to share that he leads Philips Lighting Malaysia.
With strong business acumen, exemplary leadership skills and a bold and focused vision, Ghose is responsible for the transformation of Philips Lighting Malaysia, developing it from a product oriented company to a lighting solutions enterprise.
Today, Philips Lighting is known as the pioneer for state-of-the-art digital connected lighting, visible light communications, as well as the Internet of Things for commercial and consumer applications.
Ghose joined Philips in 1996. He was part of the team that heralded LED technology into lighting. The 20-year lighting industry veteran can proudly attest to an illustrious career spanning across the globe. This includes the Netherlands where Philips headquarters is located in. Having held roles in business development across five regions, Ghose is also known for establishing a Euro 250million business line in the markets under his charge. His various responsibilities include that in B2B and B2C roles in sales management, brand and portfolio management, international marketing and strategy, e-commerce development, and various transformation projects.
Among his current goals are to create one of the largest installed base of digitally synchronised lighting points that can communicate with each other to bring benefits far beyond illumination. Proud is he to provide Malaysians with the experience to see, touch and feel cutting-edge Philips Connected LED lighting systems for various applications in the experience centres at the Philips HQ in Menara Axis.
There is every reason for the Bengali community to be proud of Ghose. While he has brought honour to his people, his wife and son and the company he represents, the holder of an MBA from IMS, Indore in India who is also a marketing and international business specialist, strives to keep a good work-home balance while contributing to society.
Nevertheless, Ghose is glad to be backed by a company with 125 years of innovation and technical prowess. He prides himself in being at the forefront at Philips Lighting Malaysia, a company that is “capable in making Malaysian cities, industries, offices and homes ‘smarter’ with the sustainable and energy-efficient lighting systems we have to offer,” he says.
