MCA TO BLOCK HADI’S PRIVATE MEMBER’S BILL
KUALA LUMPUR: MCA will ensure PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s controversial Private Member’s Bill to amend Act 355 will not be debated in the next Parliament sitting. MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the party strongly opposed the Bill seeking to augment jurisdiction of syariah courts, as it was against the Federal Constitution. The Parliament Order Paper has included Abdul Hadi’s Bill as the fourth item to be debated at the sitting. “BN has made a consensus decision that government Bills will supercede Private Member’s Bills,” Liow said. He also slammed DAP for blaming MCA for “allowing” the Bill to be tabled.
