DUKE 2 91% complete
> Expressway will benefit city dwellers by reducing travelling time
KUALA LUMPUR: Phase two of the Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE) connecting the east and west of the capital city via a 16km link is currently 91% complete.
Konsortium Lebuhraya UtaraTimur (KL) Sdn Bhd (Kesturi) director Zakaria Shaffie said with another 9% to go, the longawaited expressway would be completed by year-end, and would be fully operational by early next year.
“The remaining works comprise the construction of the elevated structure for the expressway,” he told reporters during a technical visit to the project site with participants of the 2nd International Road Federation (IRF) Regional Asia Congress and Exhibition 2016, here, yesterday.
“DUKE 2 will surely benefit city dwellers, especially Segambut and Sungai Buloh residents, and we believe that with the expressway we can reduce traffic on local roads by 20%,” he said.
Construction of the RM1.18 billion DUKE Phase 2 project began in December 2013 and it comprises two additional links, namely Tun Razak Link (TR link) and Sri Damansara Link (SD Link), which will be connected to the existing DUKE 1.
The 7km SD Link begins at the Menjalara Interchange at Bandar Menjalara and ends at the Segambut Interchange in Jalan Segambut and is expected to reduce travelling time to 12 minutes.
The 9km TR Link is from Jalan Tun Razak near Kuala Lumpur Hospital to the Sentul Pasar Interchange in Jalan Gombak.
Zakaria said the DUKE 2 project will also involve construction of the park-andride facility in Segambut.
