Man nabbed over LRT mo­lest case

KUALA LUMPUR: A sus­pect who al­legedly sex­u­ally harassed a fe­male pas­sanger on the LRT last week has been ar­rested af­ter her or­deal went vi­ral on so­cial me­dia.

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd’s aux­il­iary po­lice, to­gether with po­lice spe­cial ac­tion team (SAT), nabbed the sus­pect on a RapidKL bus from Subang Me­wah head­ing to­wards Cen­tral Mar­ket here.

“The sus­pect in his 40s was taken to the SAT of­fice be­fore be­ing handed over to Dang Wangi po­lice for fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion,” Prasarana said in a state­ment yes­ter­day.

A po­lice source from Dang Wangi con­firmed the ar­rest with theSun and said the case has been for­warded to the City Sex­ual, Women and Child In­ves­ti­ga­tions Depart­ment D11 for fur­ther ac­tion.

The woman, Sy­ima Mo­hamad, de­tailed her trau­matic ex­pe­ri­ence on the train last Tues­day.

Sy­ima claimed that the man had rubbed his crotch against her while they were on the train at Univer­siti LRT sta­tion. The man then got off at the Bangsar sta­tion.

She claimed that al­though she screamed, none of the pas­sen­gers came to her aid.

Her post had gone vi­ral on so­cial me­dia, gar­ner­ing some 5,000 shares and more than 4,000 likes.

Prasarana thanked those who had pro­vided in­for­ma­tion that led to the sus­pect’s ar­rest and urged pas­sen­gers to lodge a re­port im­me­di­ately if they wit­ness or ex­pe­ri­ence a sim­i­lar in­ci­dent.
