Man nabbed over LRT molest case
KUALA LUMPUR: A suspect who allegedly sexually harassed a female passanger on the LRT last week has been arrested after her ordeal went viral on social media.
Prasarana Malaysia Bhd’s auxiliary police, together with police special action team (SAT), nabbed the suspect on a RapidKL bus from Subang Mewah heading towards Central Market here.
“The suspect in his 40s was taken to the SAT office before being handed over to Dang Wangi police for further investigation,” Prasarana said in a statement yesterday.
A police source from Dang Wangi confirmed the arrest with theSun and said the case has been forwarded to the City Sexual, Women and Child Investigations Department D11 for further action.
The woman, Syima Mohamad, detailed her traumatic experience on the train last Tuesday.
Syima claimed that the man had rubbed his crotch against her while they were on the train at Universiti LRT station. The man then got off at the Bangsar station.
She claimed that although she screamed, none of the passengers came to her aid.
Her post had gone viral on social media, garnering some 5,000 shares and more than 4,000 likes.
Prasarana thanked those who had provided information that led to the suspect’s arrest and urged passengers to lodge a report immediately if they witness or experience a similar incident.
