> Acer Malaysia launches a range of devices, including the world’s first sub-1cm-thin laptop, as well as three-year warranty packages to suit different needs

- AZIZUL RAHMAN ISMAIL

IN LINE with the tagline, ‘leading the trend in style’, Acer Malaysia recently introduced a slew of new products and services to the Malaysian market. These included a new colour for the recently-introduced Acer Swift 3 laptop, a new convertible mobile device, a gaming monitor, and an all-in-one PC.

But leading the lineup of new products is the world’s first sub1cm-thin laptop – the elegant but tough Acer Swift 7 – which is only 9.98mm thin when closed and weighs in at only 1.1kg.

Powered by the latest 7th Gen Intel Core i5 processor, the 13in laptop sports 8GB of RAM, 256GB of solid-state memory, and is rated with a nine-hour battery life.

For connectivity, the Swift 7 is built with 2x2 802.11ac WiFi with MU-MIMO wireless technology. It also has two USB 3.1 Type-C ports, one of which could be used to charge the device.

For audiophiles, there are builtin speakers with Dolby Audio Premium and Acer TrueHarmony technology.

Its Full HD display is protected with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 5, which adds to the Swift 7’s already tough aluminium unibody design.

The result is a highly-portable laptop that can withstand drops, bumps, and scratches.

In addition, Acer has also included a Premium Warranty Service with each purchase of a Swift 7.

Within the three years from the date of purchase, customers may bring their Swift 7 to an Acer service centre for a free system health check, cleaning service, and next business day turnaround repair, all via a special counter service.

The Swift 7 is undeniably thin and light. Due to its width and length (which is larger than other makes’ recent small bezel 13in laptops) and combined with its one-of-a-kind thinness, the Swift 7 feels more like a large hardbound book or file folder.

Unfortunately, the lack of more common Type-A ports also means that adapters and dongles are a must-have accessory for users.

The Acer Swift 7 is available now on 11street Malaysia for RM4,999.

Meanwhile, those looking to purchase an Acer Swift 3 – launched here in October – will now have a new colour option: luxury gold.

The event also featured the new Acer Spin 5, a 13.3in convertible mobile device powered by a 6th Gen Intel Core i3 processor paired with 4GB of RAM, 128GB of SSD storage, and 10 hours of battery life.

The Acer Swift 3 and the Acer Spin 5 are available now for RM2,899 and RM2,199 respectively.

For gamers, Acer Malaysia offers the Predator Z1, the first 27in curved monitor with Nvidia G-Sync technology.

It also features eye tracking, which detects the user’s head movements and translates them into camera controls on the screen.

The Predator Z1 will be available nationwide by midDecember at a price to be announced later.

Last but not least is the Aspire C 22, an all-in-one PC that features a full HD display and a 6th Gen Intel Core i3 processor.

What sets the Aspire C 22 (priced from RM2,099) apart is its thin design, measuring only 8mm thin.

At the launch, Acer Malaysia also announced its new range of SuperCare Warranty Packages.

Divided into five three-year packages, these warranties are offered based on the price of the product and the type of protection the customer is looking for.

The warranty packages are the Acer SuperCare 1, SuperCare 2, and SuperCare 3; the Accidental Damage and Theft Coverage; and the SuperCare Professional Package.

The Acer SuperCare 3 package includes international warranty coverage, while the Acer SuperCare 1, SuperCare 2 and the Accidental Damage and Theft Coverage cover for a one-time, one-to-one replacement for a stolen Acer device.

Meanwhile, the SuperCare Professional Package offers fast service as well as security, by ensuring that data on the device’s hard drive remains confidential.

These warranty packages address the most important and most overlooked feature of any mobile device: after-sales service.

This improves Acer’s unique position as one of the few hardware makers in the country to offer on-site services and a fast turnaround, a boon to those who uses their laptop as their daily workhorse.

The Acer SuperCare 1, 2, and 3 are priced at RM239, RM339, and RM439 respectively, while the Accidental Damage and Theft Coverage as well as the SuperCare Professional Package are available for RM139 each.

At the launch were Acer Malaysia’s products, sales and marketing general manager Chan Weng Hong, products director Johnson Seet, as well as product managers Jeffrey Lai and Edmund Hoh.

Also present were Intel Southeast Asia sales manager and Acer Global Account Team Yohan Wijaya, Microsoft Malaysia consumer and channels group general manager Bruce Howe, as well as Microsoft Asia Pacific consumer and channels group general manager Carlos Lopes.
