THAI ELECTIONS NEXT YEAR

-

BANGKOK: Thailand is set to hold general elections in 2017, according to the military government’s roadmap to democracy, but a new government may not be in power next year, the government said. Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan yesterday reassured the public general elections will certainly take place in 2017, following concerns over Deputy Prime Minister Visanu Krue-ngam’s remark on Wednesday, vaguely pointing to factors that could delay the junta’s roadmap to democracy. “There has been no decision to postpone the general elections,” Prawit said. – dpa
