Yeoh plays coy on possible Star Trek role

MALAYSIAN actress Michelle Yeoh ( right), one of Asia’s biggest film stars, played coy about being cast in the upcoming television show Star Trek: Discovery.

Yeoh was asked about the show during a red carpet appearance at the Singapore International Film Festival on Wednesday.

CBS will launch the Star Trek: Discovery television series in May.

“Well, I think CBS will make their own announcement ... But we all grew up with the Star Trek generation, so of course I’m a big fan,” said Yeoh, best known to western audiences for her roles in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Tomorrow Never Dies.

Meanwhile, Deadline.com has confirmed that Yeoh will play Captain Han Bo of the USS Shenzhou, who is said to “play a big role in Discovery’s first season”.

Casting is still underway for the series’ lead, envisioned as a younger female role. – Reuters
