The Sun (Malaysia) - - NEWS WITHOUT BORDERS -

UMNO has recorded an increase in membership despite the challenges it went through in recent times, said its secretarygeneral Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

He added that as of Nov 30, its membership stood at 3,573,716.

“Despite attacks on Umno, its membership has continued to increase as a sign of support,” he told delegates at the opening ceremony of the party annual general assembly here yesterday.

He said the number of Umno branches nationwide currently stood at 21,653.

“The spirit of Umno will continue to rise due to the endless support of the grassroots and the leadership at all levels,” he added.

He also said Umno and Barisan Nasional have become the target of manipulation and provocation from various groups.

“The continuous attacks on Umno came not only from outside but also from those who used to support the party’s struggle.

“Their intention was not only to bring down the Umno president but to also topple the BN government that is chosen by the rakyat through a democratic process,” he added.
