13 years’ jail, rotan for child rapist
KOTA BARU: A former assistant surveyor was sentenced to 13 years’ jail and three strokes of the rotan by the sessions court here yesterday for raping a minor, who was also his supposed lover, last year.
Judge Nazri Ismail handed down the sentence on Yuhazfiza Suhazwan Sukri, 23, who is now jobless, after he changed his plea to guilty during the trial proceedings.
He was accused of raping the 15year-old girl in Kampung Kubang Kawah, Bachok between 2am and 7am on July 4, 2016.
He was charged under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code, which is punishable by a maximum 20 years’ jail and whipping, if convicted.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Siti Hajar Alias.
