PREPARING people to develop into an advanced practitioner, with enhanced leadership and research skills to enhance their professional career is the aim of the Master of Pharmacy Practice programme at IMU. This programme, which had its inaugural intake on Jan 9, 2017, enriches its students’ experience by bringing together diverse backgrounds of students.

One of the students who joined the inaugural intake is Dunia Osman Shire, a lecturer from Somalia, an international student studying the Master of Pharmacy Practice programme to broaden her knowledge and to advance her career in the public sector. She hopes that this Master degree in Pharmacy Practice will lead her to reach her goal of working in the National Regulatory Authority in the future.

Jo-Ann S. Belotindos from the Philippines, chose to study in Malaysia due to its proximity to her home country and similarity in culture. For 13 years, Jo-Ann has been in academia and prior to that, was working in a community pharmacy for two years. She felt that with the fast pace in innovation and technology, as a health care provider, she should not stop learning and needs to keep her knowledge and skill levels up to date in order for her to provide better health outcomes. With this desire to improve herself, she decided to join the Master of Pharmacy Practice programme at IMU.

Another student, Dinesh, a Malaysian registered pharmacist, brings with him seven years of working experience in government hospitals. An alumni of IMU’s Bachelor of Pharmacy programme, his main goal as a pharmacist is to improve outcomes and provide education for patients with all types of medical problems and conditions. After working for seven years, he wanted to broaden his knowledge and further enhance his skills. Attracted by the discount given to alumni and the flexible schedule for working pharmacists, he enrolled into the Master of Pharmacy Practice programme.

“My experience with IMU has been unique and rewarding on so many different fronts. I enjoy being here back as a student again after eight years. I currently work as a pharmacist in a hospital. I chose IMU for my postgraduate studies because it allows me to plan my study to complement my professional focus in areas of particular interest.”
