Quite common in Asia, the tiger mum is strict and demanding. She not only has expectatio­ns, but high expectatio­ns. The tiger mum propels her children to academic success, only A’s for this mum or you’ll be sorry. There is also no such thing as “free” time. For the tiger mum, her children’s day is usually jampacked with after-school tuition and carefully selected extra-curricular activities aimed at raising the chances of her child’s admittance into none other than Ivy League schools. A tiger mum’s idea of leisure is time spent on activities that will benefit her children’s minds. While this mother’s heart may be in the right place, which is to see their children succeed in life, she often has an elitist perspectiv­e on success.
