ACTUARIAL Science offers lucrative career prospects, making it an attractive study option for many. That being said, a successful career in the actuary field begins with a solid base, which students will find at Heriot-Watt University.

Since its establishment in the 1800s, Heriot-Watt University has received multiple accolades for its programmes. Among others, the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017 placed the university in the top 200 worldwide for Statistics & Operational Research (Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics).

Heriot-Watt University offers a host of programmes at various levels. These include Actuarial Science. In fact, its Foundation in Business programme also features an Actuarial Science route.

What’s more, Heriot-Watt has the highest number of paper exemptions (eight in total) by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) in Malaysia. This means that a HeriotWatt Actuarial Science graduate will not have to sit for as many papers to become a Certified Actuarial Analyst (CAA), Fellow or Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary (CERA) of the IFoA, and will thus save time to further their career in the field. According to Farzana Aida Zulrailan, a second-year HeriotWatt student pursuing the university’s Actuarial Science programme, “Heriot-Watt’s qualification carries an amazing reputation among students and employers, and the university is consistently ranked among the top in the UK. What’s more, being able to study in my homeland whilst gaining a UK degree is definitely an advantage.” She added: “The university is strategically located in the quiet, scenic Putrajaya. Additionally, having lecturers from various professional backgrounds have also helped me tremendously in understanding my course.” Another unique advantage Heriot-Watt offers is its intercampus transfer programme – Go Global. The university’s strong presence in three countries, namely the UK, Dubai and Malaysia, allows it to offer students a truly international study experience. With Go Global, students can choose to transfer to their campus of choice so long as their programme is offered there. The use of similar syllabi in all of HeriotWatt’s campuses ensures a seamless transfer process.

For more information, visit its campus in Putrajaya during its open days on May 20 and 21. Alternatively, log on to www.hw.edu.my or call +603 8894 3888/email hwum@hw.ac.uk
