“It is an intimidating thought working with Michael Douglas because he has been there, done that,” said Apted.
“Sometimes, it is not very friendly to an experienced director when you have an actor perfectly comfortable to tell you what to do.
“But Michael was very generous and interested to not lie about it ... we would have discussion about it and he was fun to work with.
“What I love about him – he is very interesting, he is always around in the set – there is a saying that he never left the set.”
The character to look out for is undoubtedly Toni Collette who plays MI5 Agent Emily Knowles.
“What was interesting about the character that Toni played is [that] it was written for a man. It was kind of a twist to be played by a woman.
“So Toni couldn’t have every word of the script without changing [it] and yet she brought another dimension that the writer didn’t know about it.
“But it added richness to the story.”
