Educating children, developing lives
GREAT Eastern Life ChildrenCare welcomed 105 children to its second VEX Educational Robotics Workshop recently. The children, aged between seven and 14 were from homes registered under the Department of Social Welfare (JKM).
The educational workshop was held at Robotics Learning Malaysia in Bangsar Village II.
Concepts of designing, building and programming robots were just some of the topics taught, both through a classroom and hands-on process, following the VEX Robotics curriculum developed by Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy. Clearly, the young creators were excited being tasked to build a robot of their own.
Besides providing a fun and educational platform for the children to acquire more knowledge about robotics and robotics programming, the children were also taught soft skills such as leadership, teamwork and building confidence, not forgetting harnessing creative and analytical thinking abilities.
ChildrenCare was established in 1995 as a long-term community project under Great Eastern Life. To date, ChildrenCare has raised more than RM2.3 million in donations, benefiting over 180 underprivileged children’s homes under JKM. The robotics workshop is one of many initiatives under Great Eastern Life ChildrenCare’s education pillar. For more information, visit the Great Eastern website or its ChildrenCare careline.
