Party all ready to face 14th general election

SHAH ALAM: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is ready for the 14th general elections despite issues in Selangor.

Its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the party’s annual congress held in Selangor shows that all electoral machinery and grassroots leaders are up to the task conquering Putrajaya.

“Everything went well. The mood in the congress is in line with the party’s preparation for the next general election,Wan Azizah said during a press conference after her windingup speech.

Deputy president and Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the leadership issue in the state after PAS severed ties with PKR has not affected the latter’s preparation for the election.

Azmin added the three PAS exco members will still be in the Selangor government.

Earlier, during her speech, Wan Azizah stressed that PKR must continue with the struggle of its de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Meanwhile, the party outlined five core values for the Pakatan Harapan (PH) manifesto ahead of the general election.

Wan Azizah said the five items are to reform the economic sector and political institution, social stability, workers’ welfare, Sabah and Sarawak autonomy and uniting Malaysians.

“The income gap must be improved in order for us to achieve social justice,” she said when officiating at the party’s annual congress at Dewan Raja Muda Musa yesterday.

The party would introduce a “Better Jobs, Higher Wages” policy where quality jobs will be introduced, while the average salary will be increased.

“PKR is aware that employees’ paycheck has not increased in the past two decades. The present average salary of a university graduate is RM2,000, (which) is as much as they got in 1997,” she said.

The party acknowledged that Felda (Federal Land Development Authority) is the most important area for the party to focus on in the upcoming elections.

PKR has also produced five resolutions to improve the livelihood of the settlers.

Meanwhile, Anwar slammed PAS for accusing PKR of not backing the motion to amend the syariah courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1955, or RUU355.

Anwar’s message, read by his daughter Nurul Izzah Anwar, said the party respected PAS for wanting to table the bill, but the latter must first present it to the parliamentary select committee.

“The one who decided not to table the bill is (prime inister) Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak. That means the bill has been buried,” said Nurul Izzah, who is also the party’s vicepresident.
